How to search for a word on a webpage?

The amount of information available on the Internet with just a few clicks of the mouse boggles the mind. If all that info was published in a single book it would probably reach all the way to the moon.

But a single web page can hold a lot of information as well, and if you need to find something on a large, congested page it can be like finding a needle in a haystack.

There is a simple key combination that you can press to display a search box – sort of like it’s your web browser’s own personal Google.

The simplest way to find a word on a page is to use the Find Word function.

  1. Open the web page, you’re interested in.
  2. Press Ctrl+F in Windows and Linux. Press Command+F on a Mac.
  3. Type the word (or phrase) you want to find.
  4. Press Enter.

The web page scrolls to the nearest occurrence of the word. If the word occurs more than once on the web page you’re searching, press Enter to go to the next occurrence. Or, select the arrows on the right (or left) side of the Find Word window.

Webpage vs Website – YES there is an INTERESTING difference!

Webpages

Remember books? Each time you turned a page, you ingested new material from that page. Each page was its own entity.

So a book page is like a webpage: a page that contains information. More directly, a webpage is a single document that can be viewed online.

Web Pages contain images, texts, charts data and what not.

These are also often called just “pages.”

Website

Using the similar book analogy, while a webpage is a page from a book, a website is the book itself.

It is a collection of the pages that share a common thread or in simple words, all webpages of a website come together for a website.

Website is a set of related web pages located under a single domain name.

Often called   a “web site” or simply  a “site.”
